Joyce has grown up on the streets of Kissii with her mother. She is 5 ½ years old and suffers from a condition were the bones in her skull fused too early. Her brain continues to grow which pushes her skull into unusual shape. Joyce was used to beg in the street due to her abnormal features. She was taken to Kijabe mission hospital who told she could be operated on to repair this condition.
Surgery was organised and about a month later Joyce had 14 hours of surgery and spent a couple of days in intensive care. She did very well post-surgery and is now no longer living on the streets. Her grandmother has taken her in and will arrange with our help for her to get the education she needs. Joyce faces further surgery early next year to correct the facial area around her nose
