Alex is a 12 year old boy who suffered severe burns as a young child when a paraffin candle fell over in their house. Alex is burnt from the waist up, he has damage to his face, eye and ear, as well as the contractures in his arms and hands. Alex was attending a school in Nakuru however he was getting badly teased because of his scars. His family asked if he could come to the Mission In Action school which he now attends and is doing well. Kenya Health has had Alex reviewed at Kijabe Mission Hospital which has an excellent plastic surgeon. Alex will be starting the first of at least 4 surgeries in November to have repairs to his eye, ear, hands and other areas of his scarring.
Has had his first plastic surgery in Feb 2012 to release the contractures on his right arm and fix his right eyelid. His next surgery was booked for August 2012. Continuging care is needed.
